The Proper Way to Uninstall Applications
The proper removal of applications from a computer is important, yet often overlooked. While it may seem pretty straight forward on how to remove a program, it is a common mistake that programs are removed the incorrect way.
With that being said, let’s begin with what not to do. A common mistake is deleting the program from the folder listing. As an example, let’s say your program is installed in C:\Program Files\Adobe. This is the path in which the program is installed to. Instead of simply clicking on the folder and pressing delete, it would be appropriate to actually ‘remove’ the application the way the developer intended it to be removed.
You may be asking yourself why it is important to remove it the correct way as opposed to the simple way (deleting the folder that contains the application). The reason is simple; files are stored in other directories and registry entries are put into the windows registry that is specifically designed for that particular application. Registry entries, when not removed can cause clutter. The same goes for extra files.
To properly remove an application, the best approach would be to go into the control panel and browse over to ‘Add or Remove Programs’ – this is where installed programs are listed to be modified or removed. Simply select the application in the list and select remove.
An alternate way to remove applications would be to use the uninstaller that came with the program. The uninstaller could be found in the start menu by browsing to the installed program folder. If you click Start > Programs > and then click on the appropriate folder, you should see an ‘uninstall’ option.
Following these simple steps will keep your computer running smoothly and much more efficiently. Removing programs the incorrect way will clutter the operating system and ultimately, create more problems. Also, there are still some problems that could arise from this process.
