Beware When Installing ANY Program
Installing a new program, either store purchased or downloaded, may not seem like a daunting task. Fact is, it should be. Software developers, both legitimate and less than almost always have unsuspecting pitfalls that will add more spyware, adware, and just plain old junk to your computer if you let them.
Example, when installing Yahoo! Messenger, you ‘next’ through various screens asking you what directory you want to install to, if you want desktop icons, start menu icons, quick launch icons, if you want the program to start automatically when Windows starts, and other various seemly harmless questions.
Most customers want all those things and leave all the options clicked, unfortunately very few people read and know what all those little checked boxes do. More often than not you are giving permission for software developers to install third party, or unneeded software on your computer, such as tool bars, offers for free ring tones, media players you will never use. And all these programs will monetarily free, do come with a price. They start up when your computer starts up, bogs it down and further complicates your machines ability to render the content YOU want.
So next time you’re installing software, be sure to read all of the ‘great’ options you have to install when you’re installing your favorite web browser, instant message program, media player, or other piece of software.
